"Η Γέννηση" και "Το φίλημα του Ιούδα" - Κομιανού Άρια

Με έντονα ξηρό ύφος αλλά και πολλές εκλεκτικές συγγένειες με την αγιογραφική εργασία του Παπαλουκά –στην Άμφισσα, στο παρεκκλήσιο Νομικού κ.ά.– η Κομιανού αποδίδει την παράσταση της «Γέννησης» με την τεχνική της έγχρωμης ξυλογραφίας. Το μοτίβο μένει πιστό στο βυζαντινό του πρότυπο, αλλά αποδίδεται πολύ πιο λιτό, καθώς λείπουν ο Ιωσήφ, οι βοσκοί, οι μάγοι, στηρίζεται δε, σε ένα τρίγωνο –το βουνό– μέσα στο οποίο εγγράφονται με μια μεγάλη καμπύλη η Θεοτόκος, πίσω της το Θείο Βρέφος και τέλος η φάτνη, ενώ τη σύνθεση στηρίζουν εκατέρωθεν δυο άγγελοι. Η σύνθεση της «Γέννησης», καθώς και «Η προδοσία του Ιούδα» (#941) προέρχονται από μια πολύ πρώιμη περίοδο της παραγωγής της χαράκτριας και αποτελούν σπάνιο δείγμα της γραφής της.

Το «Φίλημα του Ιούδα» ακολουθεί το βυζαντινό του πρότυπο, ωστόσο πολύ πιο απλοποιημένο. Λείπουν τόσο η ομάδα των μαθητών όσο και ο όχλος των στρατιωτών, ενώ στο κέντρο της σύνθεσης εικονίζονται ο Χριστός με τον Ιούδα. Μόνο ένας στρατιώτης, που εισέρχεται στη σκηνή από στα αριστερά και δείχνει προς τον Ιησού, παρεμβάλλεται στο σύμπλεγμα των δυο πρωταγωνιστών, που αναπτύσσεται σε ένα τρίγωνο με κορυφή το φωτοστέφανο του Ιησού. Συνολικά το εξαιρετικά λιτό και αφαιρετικό το ύφος, κερδίζει το θεατή με τη στιβαρότητα και τη σαφήνειά του.

With a strongly dry style but also many eclectic affinities with the hagiographic work of Papaloukas – in Amfissa, in the chapel of Nomikos, etc. – Komianou renders the representation of the “Birth” with the technique of colored woodcut. The motif remains faithful to its Byzantine model, but is rendered much more modestly, as Joseph, the shepherds, the magicians are missing, and it rests on a triangle – the mountain – in which the Virgin Mary is inscribed with a large curve, behind her the Divine Infant and finally the manger, while the composition is supported on either side by two angels. The composition of the “Nativity” as well as “The Betrayal of Judas” (#941) come from a very early period of the engraver’s production and are a rare example of her writing.

Τhe “Kiss of Judas” follows its Byzantine pattern, but much more simplified. Both the group of disciples and the crowd of soldiers are missing, while Christ and Judas are depicted in the center of the composition. Only one soldier, who enters the scene from the left and points to Jesus, intervenes in the complex of the two protagonists, which develops in a triangle topped by the halo of Jesus. Overall, the extremely simple and abstract style wins the viewer over with its solidity and clarity.
