Maria Chalvatzi
Maria Chalvatzi was born in Neos Skopos in Serres. She studied Fine Arts in Aristotle University in Thessaloniki and Marble Sculpture in Tinos. She worked in restoration of Epidaurus archaelogical site and she was the first woman who was hired to work as an ancient monument restorer (she took part in restoration of Kamara in Thessaloniki). She has been teaching marble carving and plasterwork for 13 years in the sculpture studio of Fotis Chatziioannidis in Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, and was also artistic director at the art workshop ARTIO of DEPKA in Serres. She owns a laboratory and a permanent exhibition, along with her husband sculptor George Pananakis, in Potamia (Thassos) and in Neos Skopos (Serres) where they also live. She participates in group exhibitions all over Greece and her works can be found in public areas as well as in private collections.
