“Painting, signature “”Marie Marrel””. Piece dimensions: 98 cm (height) x 69 cm (width). Frame dimensions: 103 cm (height) x 73 cm (width). Marie-Thérèse Marrel was born on 26 August 1930 at Oran, Algeria, during a two-years trip of her parents in North Africa. At the age of eight months, she was brought to France where she grew up between Nice, Paris and Burgundy. Due to a marked inclination for the arts, known since his early age, Marrel enrolled at Villa Thiole School of Fine Arts, Nice, France (1947-1950). She continued her studies at the École de Amédée Ozenfant first in New York (1950-1952) and then in Cannes (1952-1954). She furthered her studies at the Radcliffe Institute of Advanced Study of Harvard University (1954-1958). During the time she spent in Massachusetts, Marrel worked for the Elizabeth Peabody House.

It is also worth noting that in 2007 the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish, New Hampshire, commissioned Marrel to create the portrait of celebrated sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1848-1907) to mark the centenary from his birth.

Marie-Thérèse Marrel currently lives and works in Toulouse and visits Greece unfailinngly every summer.”
